Among the three LeT terrorists killed in the encounter with security forces, two have been identified - Lateef Lone and Umer Nazir. While Lateef Lone was involved in the killing of a Kashmiri Pandit Purana Krishna Bhat, Umer Nazir was involved in the killing of Till Bahadur Thapa of Nepal, police said.

Police also recovered AK 47 rifle and two pistols from the possession of the terrorists. "Encounter started at Munjh Marg area of Shopian district. Police and Security Forces are on the job. Details shall follow," Kashmir Zone Police had said earlier.

Army and police forces were on the job and two to three terrorists were believed to be trapped.

In October, Purana Krishna Bhat was shot when he was in the lawn of his house at Choudhary gund area. At that time, Kashmir Freedom Fighters (KFF) had claimed responsibility for the attack. Bhat, a Kashmiri Hindu, did not leave the Valley even as militancy peaked in the 1990s.
