Patna, Dec 14: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar lost his cool inside the Assembly when BJP MLAs tried to target him over the Chhapra hooch tragedy in which seventeen people died.
“Kya ho Gaya, jehrili sharab, halla kar rahe ho tum log,” said Nitish Kumar inside the assembly. The JDU leader was also seen gesturing to BJP MLAs to be quiet.
This happened when a discussion was happening on issues like the hooch tragedy and the lathi-charge on job aspirants in Patna. After Nitish Kumar’s remarks, BJP MLAs started asking him to apologize, resulting in commotion in the House. Leader of Opposition Samrat Chaudhary said the Nitish Kumar government was behind the sale of spurious liquor in the state and demanded that an FIR be lodged against him by the family members of the deceased. BJP MLAs also asked the chief minister to explain where spurious liquor is coming from. The Opposition later staged a walkout from the assembly. The BJP hasn’t missed opportunities to corner Nitish Kumar after he once again ditched the saffron party in August and went back to the RJD to form a new government in Bihar. The attacks have escalated after the JDU leader’s efforts to bring together anti-BJP forces for a united opposition to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2024 when India votes to elect its new government. In a counter-attack to the BJP, JDU leader Shalini Mishra said prohibition is successful in Bihar and that the BJP is trying to defame the state government. “Strict action is being taken against the liquor mafia and the women of the state are happy with the CM’s action,” she said. Bihar imposed complete prohibition in the state in April 2016, a move that won a significant number of women voters often seen to be victims of domestic violence at the hands of drunk men.
But the state continues to witness liquor sales on the black market and deaths owing to the consumption of locally made spurious liquor. The family members of the deceased persons in Chhapra claimed that their relatives died due to the consumption of poisonous liquor. The incident took place in the Doila village of Isuapur police station area and Yadu Mor of Mashrak police station area.
