Speaking with media reporters outside Parliament following the adjournment, Amit Shah listed the reasons behind the cancellation of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) licence of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. It should be noted that the Centre cancelled the FCRA licences of two Gandhi family run non-government organizations – Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF) and Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust (RGCT) in October over misuse of funds by the Gandhi family.

Initially, Amit Shah said, "Today in Lok Sabha Opposition did not allow Question Hour to run and I condemn this act. Parliamentary Affairs Minister clearly said that the Defence Minister will make a statement on this (Tawang faceoff) in the Parliament". Attacking the Opposition, he added, "The opposition raised the issue of India-China to face off to avoid question being raised in Lok Sabha on FCRA violation by the Rajiv Gandhi foundation."

The Union home minister said, "I saw the question hour list and after seeing question number 5, I understood the anxiety (of Congress). The question was regarding the cancellation of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) licence of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF)."

He listed out two reasons - 1) Rajiv Gandhi Foundation received grant of Rs 1.35 crores from the Chinese Embassy during 2005-2007. 2) It had also received Rs 50 lakhs from Zakir Naik of the Islamic Research Foundation on July 7, 2011.

"If they would have allowed I would have given an proper answer in Parliament that Rajiv Gandhi Foundation received grant of Rs 1.35 crores from the Chinese Embassy during 2005-2007, which was not appropriate as per FCRA. So as per the rules, Home Ministry cancelled its registration."

Further, another reason was he said, "Rajiv Gandhi Foundation received Rs 50 lakhs from Zakir Naik of the Islamic Research Foundation on July 7, 2011. I want to ask the ones who run the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation i.e. from Gandhi Family that why Zakir Naik gave you this amount."

In October, the Centre cancelled the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) licences of two Gandhi family run non-government organizations – Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF) and Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust (RGCT).

This came after the government found that they violated several provisions of the act such as using funds for personal gains, diverting it for undesirable purposes, not keeping the government informed about the source and utilization of funds and not using the designated bank account for these organizations.
