Hanoi, Dec 10: In a major development, Vietnam International Defense Expo 2022 is being held in Hanoi from December 8-10. In this event, BrahMos Aerospace, an Indo-Russian multinational aerospace and defence corporation is exhibiting its missiles in order to strengthen India-Vietnam defence relations.
"BrahMos is the best supersonic cruise missile developed in the world today, and that is what we're offering Vietnam," Praveen Pathak, head of the Marketing, Promotion and Export Department at BrahMos Aerospace, told VnExpress on the sidelines of the event.
BrahMos Aerospace is also exhibiting its missile deployment platforms, such as the Su-30MIK fighter jet, warships, submarines and ground launchers, at Defense Expo 2022. Speaking further, Pathak said Vietnam flies many Su-30 fighter jets, and that the BrahMos missile version for the aircraft could be suitable for the country. He added that the BrahMos missile for the Su-30MKI fighter is currently "available only in India and not even in Russia."
Reports suggest that Vietnam Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinn also halted by the Brahmos Aerospace Ltd pavilion and demonstrated interest in Brahmos for Vietnamese Su-30 fighter jet. Apart from him, Vietnamese Air Force delegation also showed interest in the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas fighter at the pavilion.
Earlier, Philippines signed a $374 million contract with the BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd (BAPL) for the supply of Shore Based Anti-Ship Missile System. Notably, the BAPL is a joint venture company of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The BAPL, an India-Russian joint venture, produces the supersonic cruise missile BrahMos that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or land platforms.
The missile can fly at 2.8 Mach speed which is almost three times the speed of sound. Besides, the missile has been deployed in key areas across the country. The sea variant of the latest BrahMos missile has a range of 350 to 400 km. It is capable of being launched from submarines, ships, fighter jets and from land. It means BrahMos is the potent offensive missile weapon system that is already inducted into the Armed Forces and is used by the Indian Navy, Indian Air Force as well as Indian Army. The missile has integrated stealth technology and guidance system with advanced embedded software.
