PM Narendra Modi on Monday unveiled the logo, theme, and website of India’s G20 presidency. Notably, India will assume the presidency of the powerful G20 grouping from the current chair Indonesia on December 1. He also explained the logo and theme of India's G20 logo. He noted that the G20 logo represents the planet earth atop a lotus, the national flower symbolizing spirituality, wealth, and knowledge and reflecting growth amid tough times.
In a tweet, PM Modi also shared a pic explaining the lotus in it. He said, "the world is going through the after-effects of disruptive once-in-a-century pandemic conflicts and a lot of economic uncertainty. The symbol of the lotus in the G20 logo is a representation of hope in these times. No matter how adverse the circumstances, the lotus still blooms."
Now, the so-called liberals are coming forward to, of course, criticise the logo that has a lotus in it. It is pertinent to mention that the logo of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also has lotus in it. The ‘liberal’ political commentator and journalist Salil Tripathi was one of them.
In a tweet, "How can a G20 meeting logo have the symbol of a political party (lotus)? Are the other 19 countries within G20 endorsing Narendra Modi? If so, say so. If not, say so," he said. Tagging UK government, US mission to UN, US government, French Mission to UN, European Union at UN, he asked if they endorse the BJP?
Eventually, he got schooled by the netizens for raising baseless objections. A user called it a foolish tweet and explained, "Lotus is national flower of India as tricolour despite being national flag is a party insignia too. Foolish tweet. By the way to give a bit of jolts, Vishnu is called as Padmanabha (Lotus navel), & Saraswati sits on a lotus."
Anothere user said, sarcastically tweeted, "American Zalil Tripathi thinks G20 logo should have symbol of POTUS and not Lotus. Fair enough for his intellectual capacity & understanding."
"Before becoming BJP logo Lotus is our National Flower - Guess brought in by the great Nehruji if you forgot :)," a uer said.
Even in the comment section, he was seen having war of words with netizens.
