India tries to puts pressure on Canada, asks to stop Khalistan referendum and ban SFJ

The Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) has proposed the referendum in Mississauga, near Toronto, on 6 November. The first such exercise was held at Brampton on 18 September wherein over 100,000 Canadian Sikhs took part in voting for the Khalistan Referendum.

New Delhi, November 04: Taking the objection over the upcoming second round of a “Khalistan referendum” that is scheduled to take place on 6 November, India tried to pressurise the Trudeau government and asked them to stop anti-India activity on their land.

Moreover, the Ministry of External Affairs has also asked the Canadian government to designate as terrorists under its laws those individuals and entities who have been declared as terrorists under Indian laws.
 
While answering the question related to the Khalistan referendum, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, “We find it deeply objectionable that politically motivated exercises by extremist elements are allowed to take place in a friendly country. You are all aware of the history of violence in this regard,” said MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi.
 
 
 
“We will continue to press the Government of Canada on this matter, and call upon them to prevent anti-India activities by individuals and groups based in their country, and to designate as a terrorist, under their law, individuals, and entities who have been declared as terrorists under Indian law,” he added.
 
“Our position on the efforts by anti-India elements to hold a so-called Khalistan referendum is well-known and has been conveyed to the Canadian Government, both in New Delhi and in Canada,” he said.
