Colombo, Nov 22: At least two front-line ministers in the Sri Lankan government have been suspended by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) for breach of party discipline. The announcement of the minsters' suspension was made on Tuesday (Nov 22).
“They have been suspended temporarily until they offer explanations," Dayasiri Jayasekera, the party general secretary shared with media. Minister of Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva and Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera along with three other junior ministers in the government of President Ranil Wickremesinghe were sacked by the SLFP's central committee which met on Nov 21.
Nimal Siripala de Silva is presently serving as the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation. He is the former Cabinet Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation in the 15th Sri Lankan Parliament of Sri Lanka. Besides, de Silva was also the former Leader of Opposition, former Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Management and former Leader of the House.
Mahinda Amaraweera is presently the cabinet Minister of Agriculture, Wildlife, and Forest Resources Conservation. He is the MP for the Hambantota District, as a member of the Sri Lanka People's Freedom Alliance.
