Two local leaders of the now-banned Popular Front of India (PFI) were arrested by the Kerala police in connection with the murder of RSS worker SK Sreenivasan in Palakkad. The arrests took the total number of accused held for the murder that took place in April to 37.
Seythali, who was the Kulukkallur area secretary of the PFI, was arrested along with unit member Rasheed, News 18 Kerala said in a report. The police said that the duo helped the killers go into hiding before making arrangements to put the vehicles used to commit the crime out of sight.
A few days ago, an officer involved in the investigation of the murder had alleged that he received a death threat over the phone. M Anil Kumar alleged that an unknown person called him on Saturday night and asked him “keep a casket ready”.
In September, Palakkad district secretary of PFI, Aboobaker Siddik, was arrested for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to kill the RSS leader. He was among PFI activists who planned retaliatory attacks on leaders of political organisations including the BJP, CPI(M) and IUML, PTI reported.
SK Srinivasan, a former district leader and office-bearer of RSS, was allegedly killed by a group of six people at his motorbike shop in Melamuri on April 16. He was attacked barely 24 hours after PFI leader Subair was hacked to death at Elappully in the district on April 15 afternoon.
On December 19, 2021, BJP OBC wing state secretary Renjith Sreenivasan was hacked to death in the Alappuzha district following the murder of SDPI state secretary KS Shaan just a day earlier.
