Jaipur, Nov 10: After revelations about conversion of 400 Hindus in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut, news comes from Rajasthan where another instance of mass conversion is seen in a series of events. Hindutvawadi organization ‘Dharma Jagaran Manch’, made the revelations about mass conversion in Rajasthan, claiming that Christian missionaries are in contact with 3 lakh Hindus for conversion in the state.

Conversion

‘Dharma Jagaran Manch’ has claimed that Christian missionaries in Rajasthan have approached and established contact with almost 3 lakh Hindus with an aim of converting them. The organization has said that the Christian missionaries have been criticizing idol worshipping and misleading Hindus. The Manch goes on with further details of the conversions in the state and has thus made a detailed accusation on the Christian missionaries active in Rajasthan.

According to the Dharma Jagran Manch, the Christian Missionaries are very active in Dhani Bhairava, Vatika village which is just 22 km from the capital city of Jaipur. They are trying to convert 400 Hindu families in this place. The organization also claims that the Christian missionaries are advising Hindus to stop Idol-worshipping; not to follow different observances; not to believe in Hindu Deities and other similar practices.

As per the reports of Sanatan Prabhat, the Hindutvawadi organization also claims that the missionaries said that "All problems of Hindus including their ailments would be solved by worshipping Jesus Christ, but worshipping Deities would lead to disaster". As per the information given by the residents, Christian missionaries are promising Hindus with jobs while asking them to throw Idols of Deities in rivers or lakes or keep them under a peepal tree.

Media reports of Republic suggest that the Christian missionaries are attempting to convert Dalits and other people from economically backward societies, by propagating anti-Hindu messages. In order to do so, messages depicting Hindu hatred, against Hindu Gods and Goddesses are being allegedly propagated. A person, who is allegedly a preacher of Christianity is accused of conversion.

Republic has quoted a local resident saying, "On 28th October, a big event was held where in the name of Bhajan Sandhya, a large number of people were gathered and attempts were being made to convert them into Christianity. We agitated against the man. Till today, he is absconding and the police could not catch hold of him. Around 500-600 families from our village were trapped. He used to tell women not to wear sindoor, bindi, or bangles. He would ask people not to worship certain deities. He would encourage people to have non-vegetarian food during pujas."

Quoting another resident the Republic reports stated that, a man along with a female member of his family said, "People here are now changing their religion. This man is doing it. He came to us on Diwali and asked not to do any Puja."

The Rajasthan government, however, has been acting on the backfoot with Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot stating that the govt has not received any such major input of incidents. The CM has in fact normalized anti - Hindu conversions stating that such conversion is normally happening in other states as well.

At the same time, Rajasthan police issued a statement on the incident on Wednesday (Nov 9), denying the case. The police stated that neither conversion nor any bid to conversion took place in Jaipur. Jaipur deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Yogesh Goyal stated that neither conversion had taken place nor any person had made any attempt for conversion. The DCP stated this after a police probe regarding reports of alleged bid to conversion at Vatika village in Rajasthan's state capital.

Cabinet minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas also stated that no incident of conversion had taken place in Jaipur and alleged that the opposition BJP is spreading rumours. However, a senior BJP leader and deputy leader of the opposition in the state Assembly, Rajendra Rathore, levelled allegations against Ashok Gehlot led Congress government of not taking strict action against conversion.

DCP Yogesh Goyal stated that the entire matter had been thoroughly probed after allegations by the local people and news reports in a section of the media but neither conversion nor any attempt to conversion was found. The DCP said that the programme had not been allowed as the local people opposed it. According to the statement of the police, Pastor Dharampal is constructing his house in the area and he keeps on organizing such programmes. He was in touch with Amrit Sandhu and his team from Punjab. All the angles were probed, he added.
