EXTERNAL SECURITY
Illegal Migration From Bangladesh, Cattle Smuggling, Export Of Global Jihad
The central government on Tuesday informed that in the last 5 years, as many as 2399 Bangladeshi nationals have been intercepted and found to be using fraudulently obtained Indian documents. The government said, it has written to all states and Union territories to take prompt steps to identify illegal Bangladeshi migrants staying in India and initiate a process to deport them as per the provisions of law.
All opposition parties, from AAP to Congress, from TRS to TMC, from SP to BSP, have time and again lobbied for illegal migrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh to be allowed to encroach upon government land and be provided facilities at the taxpayers’ expense.
The BJP, has been consistent with its position on Rohingya and Bangladesh illegal migrants, which is not allowing them to become permanent settlers in the country and encroach upon the rights of its citizens. But the efforts to detect illegal migrants have been inadequate.
The Indo- Bangladesh border is buffeted by three cross border phenomenon i.e. illegal migration from Bangladesh, cattle smuggling from India and export of global jihad from Bangladesh. Even though Sheikh Hasina has cracked down heavily on the jihadis, they have now found safe havens in India, and now lend their violent weight in the Indian elections. Cattle smuggling is massive economic activity which fills political coffers. A BSF officer was arrested by the ED under Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002, for illegal cattle smuggling into Bangladesh from India in Feb 2022.
The Border Security Force court-martialed 33 personnel, mostly for their involvement in cattle smuggling that is prevalent along the India-Bangladesh border. Investigation is going on against 14 more others.
Induction Of LCH Into The IAF
The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Monday inducted the first batch of indigenously-developed Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) into the IAF inventory at a ceremony in Rajasthan's Jodhpur today.
The induction of the first fleet of the indigenously-built Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) into the Indian Air Force is a major step forward for ‘Make in India’ in the defence sector.
India’s defence industry, is becoming less import-dependent and making its presence felt in the international arena. The government said recently that defence exports had grown by 334 per cent in the past five years, with India now exporting to over 75 countries.
The ‘Make in India’ push can pave the way for ‘Make for the World’ through adequate allocation and timely disbursal of funds for R&D as well as timely production.
During his address, Jaishankar said just as India is an expert in information technology, "our neighbour is an expert in international terrorism" and warned that if terrorism is "being done against us, tomorrow it will be against you.
COUNTERING CHINA PAKISTAN HYBRID WAR
Hindus and Sikhs are extinct from Afghanistan, Hazaras (Shia Muslims) are next
Last week a suicide bomb attack on an educational centre in Kabul’s Hazara-populated neighbourhood claimed lives of 46 young girls, bringing attention back to the persecution of the Hazara in Afghanistan. Hazaras, comprising around 10 per cent of Afghan population, are not just the largest ethnic minority but ,they were among the most persecuted minorities in the country along with religious minorities such as Hindus and Sikhs. The Taliban’s return has once again led to increased their persecution .With Sikhs and Hindu community practically extinct Hazara are all set to become the next.
Pakistan’s Afghanistan policy fails, Afghan Taliban moves against Islamabad
Pakistan’s decades-long interventionist policy regarding Afghanistan has failed. Pakistan’s long-standing objective—to have a dependent government in Kabul, instead of providing any strategic advantage or contributing to Pakistan’s security, has become a worrisome thorn in Pakistan’s side. or TTP.
The most significant of anti Pakistan steps is supporting the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, (TTP) and providing them a free field in Afghanistan. Soon after assuming power, the Afghan Taliban regime set free over two-thousand TTP members kept in Afghan jails by previous Afghan presidents.
The Afghan Taliban’s strategy of supporting and facilitating Pakistani talks with the TTP—as opposed to fighting the group militarily—has multiple angles. The third significant anti-Pakistan measure of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan is not to recognize as settled the 2,640 kilometer—otherwise internationally recognized—border between the two countries known as the Durand Line.
Pakistan’s long-standing policy regarding Afghanistan has failed to achieve its core objective of having a pro-Islamabad regime in Kabul to counterbalance the threat from India. This policy failure has enabled and emboldened the Afghan Taliban to use Pakistan for the group’s own agenda: strengthen its stranglehold over Afghanistan via support from the TTP to the exclusion of all other Afghan political forces.
The statement by Mullah Yaqoob, Taliban Defense Minister, desiring that Pakistan’s arch-rival India train Afghan troops, if Delhi agrees to train Taliban troops, would mark the end of Taliban dependence on Pakistan, and a major foothold for Indian influence on Pakistan’s western border.
Ties Between China And Pakistan Are Sinking
The cause for deterioration in ties are many. First is the attacks on Chinese citizens in Pakistan. Attack on Chinese engineers working in the Dasu hydroelectric power plant resulted in Pak paying USD 11.6 million in compensation. Pakistan will be compelled to pay compensation for those killed when China determines the figures.
China demanded that it be permitted to employ its own security agencies to safeguard its nationals in Pakistan. While this would be a win-win for China, it would be the opposite for Pakistan. Till this is resolved, Chinese projects have slowed down.
Chinese power companies, established as part of the CPEC are threatening to shut down power plants in Pakistan unless their dues, amounting to Rs 300 billion, are cleared. They have also protested on high cost of import of coal.
Exploiting the situation, the Taliban government increased the price of coal from USD 90 per tonne to USD 200 per tonne.
The IMF, has objected to payments to Chinese power companies. On the contrary, it has directed the Pak government to renegotiate terms and conditions with Chinese power companies and bring their financial compensation at par with other power providers. This has angered China.
Reports indicate that the Pak armed forces are unhappy with Chinese equipment supplied to them. Armour, artillery and air defence equipment have been facing servicing problems, while spares remain in short supply.
With Pak on the Grey List, it is compelled to bank on China as other sources have dried up. China can not let Pak collapse and follow the Sri Lankan route. If that happens, Chinese global standing will be impacted. However, it will seek its pound of flesh, which could imply Pak surrendering territory including part of Gilgit Baltistan as payment or permitting Chinese security companies to enter Pak.
Bangladesh Opening Six New Ports; Good News For Assam .
Bangladesh opening six new ports of call for using its waterways and seaports by Bhutan is good news for Assam as it will make the Brahmaputra River route a growing hub of trade and commerce between India's two neighbouring countries. The development of multimodal transport facilities along the Brahmaputra will attract more Bhutanese traders to make optimal use of the improved connectivity through Assam for the expansion of their export-import business.
Bhutan primarily exports boulders, cardamom, oranges, pebbles and gravels, limestone, dolomite, ferroalloys, gypsum, semi-finished products of iron or nonalloy steel, silicon carbide etc., to Bangladesh.
Increasing export and import business through Assam will spur economic activities generating income and employment avenues. Assam's strategic advantage in bilateral trade between Bhutan and Bangladesh needs to be harnessed for unlocking its economic potential.
RUSSIA UKRAINE WAR
Ukrainian forces burst through Russian lines in major advance in south
Ukraine has already destroyed the main bridges across the Dnipro, forcing Russian forces to use makeshift crossings. A substantial advance along the river could bring those remaining crossings into artillery range. "The fact we have broken through the front means that ... the Russian army has already lost the ability to attack.
Russian forces in the Donetsk and Kherson regions have been forced to retreat in recent days and appear to be struggling to halt an increasingly Western-equipped Ukrainian army. Russian forces were destroying their reserves of ammunition and trying to destroy bridges and crossings in order to slow the Ukrainian advance, the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) said in its daily report.
Putin formally annexes more than 15% of Ukraine
Russia declared the annexations after holding what it called referendums in occupied areas of Ukraine. Western governments and Kyiv said the votes breached international law and were coercive and non-representative. The areas that are being annexed are not all under control of Russian forces. Russia's total claim amounts to around 18% of Ukrainian territory, though the exact borders are still to be clarified.
Russia says over 200,000 drafted into army since Putin's decree
Russia had announced that he planned to enlist 300,000 men with previous military experience to bolster Russia's invasion of Ukraine, where it has suffered a series of defeats in recent weeks. Worried about Afghan terror, Russia-led military alliance have formed a new unit to counter biological weapons.

China’s long-term intentions remain shrouded in opacity .While repeatedly demonstrating its penchant for “salami-slicing”, at sea as well as on land, China continues to stake its claim to Arunachal Pradesh as “Southern Tibet.” Its determined hostility to India in international forums leaves little room for the hope that “strategic patience” will resolve bilateral problems. We need to be more proactive and put multi domain pressure on China.
