America's notorious newspaper, the New York Times, which loves to peddle anti-India propaganda on its media platform, has once again spewed venom against the country. This time the 'Anti India' newspaper used its expensive advertisement section to run its so-called propaganda against India.
In advertisements funded by some Muslim organisations like the American Muslim Institution, the Association of Indian Muslims of America, and the Indian American Muslim Council, the NYT published an open letter to the American people and tried to brainwash their brains against India. The ad was published on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary.
In its ad, NYT highlights the "imaginary discrimination" against minorities in India to criticise the Indian government. It further twists India's internal issues in a bid to provoke the American people against India.
From CAA to the Bilkis Bano rape case, the NYT left no stone unturned to showcase how, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the right-wing Hindu nationalist BIP and RSS, India is violating the human rights of minorities and so-called peace-loving people. According to the letter, the recent Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens are disenfranchising Muslims who have lived in India for centuries.
Continuing to spew venom, the NYT further said that the BJP government is attempting to illegally seize land and property set aside by Muslims for charitable purposes. Ironically, the reality is completely opposite to what the NYT has shown.
In reality, the Islamic Property Board, known as the
WAQF Board, is using its land-grabbing policy to claim the land of poor Hindus. Recently, they have claimed the ownership of the land of seven Hindu villages, including the land of a 1,500-year-old Sundareswarar Temple, in Thiruchendurai. As per one report, the Waqf Board is the third largest landowner in the country.
It also utters that Dalits (formerly ‘untouchables’) and India’s Adivasi (indigenous) people face discrimination and oppression, including killings and rapes, on a regular basis.
"The Indian judiciary and police are filled with BJP/RSS loyalists and are doing little to nothing to stop atrocities against religious minorities. "The constitution, religious freedom, the sanctity of places of worship, property, the lives and the honour of the minorities do not matter as long as the BJP is in power in India," the letter further read.
The issue came to light in the media after the United States-India Relationship Council (USIRC), sharply reacted to advertisements and tried to bust their propganda. In a Twitter thread, USIRC pointedly rebuked each claim made by NYT in the ad.
Countering the NYT's allegation against CAA, USIRC said the Citizenship Amendment Act is a humanitarian gesture that gives citizenship to refugees from nations that neighbour India. Those refugees are non-Muslim precisely because they are fleeing Muslim-majority countries with a record of persecution against them.
