Zimbabwe showcased a spectacular performance to defeat Pakistan by one run on Thursday in the ongoing T20 World Cup. It was Zimbabwe's bowlers who delivered an outstanding performance after being limited to a meager score of 130/8 to ensure a thrilling victory for the team in Perth.
Shaheen Afridi could only manage a single on the final delivery, with Pakistan needing three to win, before being run out while attempting a second run. Soon after their incredible performance, some are calling it a "Mr Bean revenge" that also involved the Zimbabwean president and Pakistan’s prime minister.
What actually happened?
Earlier, Pakistan Cricket's official Twitter account shared photos of the players prepping for the Zimbabwe clash. Responding to this, a Zimbabwean fan said, "As Zimbabweans we won't forgive you...you once gave us that Fraud Pak bean instead of Mr Bean Rowan..we will settle the matter tomorrow just pray the rains will save you...#ZIMVSPAK".
This came after a comedian Asif Muhammad, a doppelganger of Mr Bean travelled o Zimbabwe in 2016. The Pakistani comedian shows, did roadshows and was part of the Harare Agricultural Show, where everyone thought he was the real Mr Bean. However, the show that reportedly cost Zimbabweans $10 each was a complete flop. The people were livid to have ‘lost’ their money at the show and called it a fraud. During his visit to Zimbabwe, Fake Bean was also given a police escort.
Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, the president of Zimbabwe, congratulated the Zimbabwe cricket team after the team's exciting triumph over Asian Giants Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Mnangagwa tweeted, “"What a win for Zimbabwe! Congratulations to the Chevrons. Next time, send the real Mr Bean...#PakvsZim".
Responding to this, Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif tweeted, "We may not have the real Mr Bean, but we have real cricketing spirit .. and we Pakistanis have a funny habit of bouncing back :) Mr President: Congratulations. Your team played really well today."
Here are some other reactions:
Reacting to Mnangagwa's tweet, former India batsman Virender Sehwag said he had touched a nerve with his tweet on Pak Bean.
Indian stand-up comedian Danish Sait tweeted, “When Zimbabwe ask for Mr. Bean, you give them Mr. Bean. This Pak Bean revenge has been taken."
