Indian Army plans to induct electric vehicles
Around 25 per cent of light vehicles, 38 per cent of buses, and 48 per cent of motorcycles of the select unit will be changed to EVs

New Delhi, Oct 13: In a significant development, the Indian Army has been planning to induct EVs (Electric Vehicles) in its fleet. The aim is to reduce carbon emissions and dependency on fossil fuels.
Reports suggest that around 25 per cent of light vehicles, 38 per cent of buses, and 48 per cent of motorcycles of the select unit will be changed to EVs. Various factors required for the induction of EVs in the Indian Army were considered, including remote employment locations and operational commitments.
The transition is being done keeping in view the necessity and employability of EVs over various terrains. Adequate charging infrastructure is to be developed across the country, with charging points in the parking lots outside offices and residential complexes.
These EV charging stations will have at least one fast charger and two to three slow chargers. EVs per station will be installed along with Solar Panel Driven charging stations in a phased manner to bring the carbon footprint of these EVs to near zero.
The move by the Indian Army would contribute to India’s endeavours to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
