Every year when Karwachauth comes we see a lot of memes and funny messages regarding this. Which earlier used to feel hilarious but now, when we are seeing so much mocking happening with “Hindu Dharma”, I think these messages are just not cool. Our generation calls all our traditions “Regressive” and asks questions like “Why do only women have to keep fasts for their husbands” Or “Why are working women forced to follow the traditions” etc. However, I feel Calling these traditions regressive is not the solution, changing and tweaking them according to the time is.

Here are 4 reasons why traditions like “Karwachauth” are extremely IMP to preserve our traditions…!

1. It keeps you closer to your roots: We have grown up watching our families following certain types of traditions, Be it Gauri, Ganpati, Navratri, Chhath Pooja, Uttarayan, Durga Pujo, Onam, or Karwachauth. Every religion and every cast has its own traditions, and it keeps you closer to your roots. It helps you to understand where you have come from, and where you belong to. They are the foundation of your family and Kul Parampara. So Calling them regressive won’t help you, rather it will take you away from your roots. So to keep you and your coming generations grounded it is very much important to have such traditions.

2. It helps you to come closer to your family: We are living in such times, where meeting your family and spending time with them is a luxury. These small festivals and traditions are a chance for us to spend quality time with family. Laugh with them, have meals with them, and spend stress-free moments with them. These traditions help you to come closer to your partner, and family members and make your bond even stronger. There is no greater feeling than spending time with family.

3. Your next generation will be the blessed one: I have seen homes where next-generation knows everything about their family traditions, and they know every shlok, every stotra their family recites from ages, all the paramparas that their families follow, and I have seen homes where even the previous generation is clueless about family transitions, and they feel lost when others know everything. If you follow these traditions today, your future generations will be blessed. Only education and practical knowledge won’t help your kids to have an all-rounder personality. It takes their home, their parents, their upbringing, the traditions they follow, the beliefs that they have, and then the education and practical knowledge to develop an extraordinary personality. So follow these traditions not for you, but for your future generation. Because if you will do it today, only then they will be aware of these things tomorrow.

4. To prove that these traditions aren’t regressive: I know we don’t need to prove anything to anyone, even not to ourselves. But when society is mocking Hindu traditions (And by that I mean all the Hindu traditions) By calling them out as non-environment friendly or regressive. We need to practice them and set an example that they aren’t regressive. Nowadays, men also keep fast for their beloved wives on Teej and Karwachauth. Gone are the days when All women were forced to do the household work, while keeping a fast, now in maximum houses it’s teamwork that plays an important role to make these traditions a happy and fun occasion, at the same time less stressful for women. And after all, it all boils down to the beliefs that we have. These traditions help us to keep our spirit alive in this materialistic world. And that’s why we should follow them.

Calling these traditions regressive, and not taking any effort to make it a happy occasion for both men and women is very easy. But doing everything for our future generations and keeping our Hindu traditions alive takes a lot. And women and families who do it we salute them. Teej, Karwachauth, and Vatsavitri are not just fast that women keep for the long life of their husbands, it is a strong belief in our value system and faith in our deities. And string and positive faith always help in developing a positive environment and a happy home. So why not practice these traditions?
