Agra, Oct 1: A Hindu principal of an Agra government school has accused Muslim teachers of "Hijab harassment". In a viral video, Mamta Dixit, the school principal, broke down as she accused Muslim teachers of conspiracy in a bid to remove her from the principal post.
She said that there were a total of 9 teachers led by their group leader Rehana Khatun. Khatun is instigating the teachers and around 200 Muslim girls to protest against her for her religion. “Mamata Dixit kursi chhodo (Mamata Dixit resign from the chair)”, the Muslim students yell demanding a Muslim principal at the college.
According to her, the teachers are asking Muslim students to wear hijab to school, which contravenes the school dress code. She claimed that the teachers harassed her when she was trying to enforce the dress code.
“I am being harassed. 9 Islamist teachers have ganged up against me and they are threatening me to leave the chair. I am having suicidal thoughts and can’t take this anymore. I am even scared to travel in the city. They can do anything to me and my family”, Dixit said.
"I request the CM to get this investigated otherwise I'll even sit on a sit-in protest before him. I want justice & action against the accused. I want security because they (the accused)are also hatching a conspiracy against me. I fear they'd do something to me," Mamta Dixit said.
Manoj Kumar, DIOS, Agra said, "There was a complaint. We took statements of both sides. The principal gave her statement. We also questioned the staff. Initially, the complaint was about collecting a higher fee. It was resolved. Later, matters of personal dispute started coming to light".
Further, he said, "Then the complaints escalated & a video of the principal became viral. We'll resolve this through a meeting with mgmt. As far as the complaint about the burqa is concerned, we examined the footage of 2 days, and no such complaint could be established".
On the other hand, the BJP MLA from Agra and former UP minister Dr GS Dharmesh also reached the school and discussed the issue with the principal. The principal complained about the Muslim teachers and demanded action against them. The local MLA has talked to the district administration and education department officials and asked for a quick resolution of the hijab dispute while ensuring that peaceful atmosphere of the school is not disturbed.
