India, Russia to co-ordinate in multilateral formats on the Afghan settlement

India and Russia emphasized humanitarian and migration problems in Afghanistan, as well as prospects for the Russian-Indian joint efforts aimed at creating conditions for launching a peaceful settlement process on the basis of an intra-Afghan dialogue.

New Delhi, Sept 8: Amid the Afghanistan crisis, there have been many developing events going on all over the world especially between the neighboring countries of Afghanistan. Now, Russian Secretary of Security Council Nikolai Patrushev and India's National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval held talks in New Delhi on Wednesday. The two sides reportedly reviewed the political, security, and humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.

Both sides discussed deepening bilateral cooperation in the field of security with an emphasis on further interaction on the anti-terrorist track, combating illegal migration and drug trafficking, according to the Russian embassy. Patrushev is visiting India for High-Level India-Russia Inter-Governmental Consultations on Afghanistan.

The discussion was also emphasized upon humanitarian and migration problems in Afghanistan, as well as prospects for the Russian-Indian joint efforts aimed at creating conditions for launching a peaceful settlement process on the basis of an intra-Afghan dialogue. In addition to that both the sides agreed to coordinate the approaches of Russia and India in multilateral formats on the Afghan settlement.
 
The importance of defining parameters of the future state structure of Afghanistan by the Afghans themselves, as well as the need to prevent the escalation of violence, social, ethnic and confessional contradictions in the country, were priortized.

It should be noted that the Consultations are a follow-up to the telephone conversation between PM Narendra Modi and Putin. In this telephonic conversation, the two leaders had expressed the view that it was important for the two strategic partners to work together and instructed their senior officials to remain in touch on Afghanistan.
Apart from that, Further attention was paid to intensifying joint work of the both country's special services and military bodies.
