New Delhi, September 29: India would grant 6 months e-visa to about 180 Afghan soldiers and cadets, who are being trained in the various military academies in India after completing their courses here.

But around 140 of these soldiers and cadets have applied for western countries like Canada, Germany and England.

According to reports, e-visas would be given to all the Afghan cadets and soldiers who are being trained in their academies. They have been the given the option for deciding upon their course of action regarding their future during this period.
  
 
The 140 have applied for asylum in different countries, but many of them also want to stay in India. They have been put in touch with agencies who have been working with Afghans who are already living in the country.

These cadets’ future became uncertain after the Taliban strengthened their control over Afghanistan. India permitted 180 of these cadets to complete their courses in the military academy of defense forces here.

180 Afghan military personnel are being trained in various institutes. Most of them are the Indian Military Academy (IMA) at Dehradun, the Officer’s Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai and National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune.

The future of these cadets remains to be uncertain as their army has already surrendered and the Taliban are now in power.
