Kabul, September 29: Another blow to the Women rights in Afghanistan, as taking sharp 'U Turn' from their earlier statement, Taliban 0.2 has now banned women from attending classes or work at Kabul University "until an Islamic environment is created.
The Taliban-appointed chancellor of Kabul University announced that "female students won’t return to Kabul University until “a real Islamic environment” is provided for all." He stated that the KU intended to make it a hub for all real Muslims around the world to gather, research, study and Islamicize modern science.
Mohammad Ashraf Ghairat tweeted, "As long as real Islamic environment is not provided for all, women will not be allowed to come to universities or work. Islam first."
Further, he also announced that the KU would be welcoming pro-Muslim scholars and students to benefit from a real Islamic environment on the premises under the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA).
Around 70 members of the university's teaching staff have resigned after the Taliban sacked Ph.D. holder Vice-Chancellor Muhammad Osman Baburi and replaced him with Muhammad Ashraf Ghairat, a BA degree holder.
The new university policy echoes the Taliban's first time in power, in the 1990s when women were only allowed to go out in public if accompanied by a male relative. They were also barred from attending school altogether and also subjected to many atrocities.
Since taking over the reins in Afghanistan, the Taliban have issued a number of diktats, most of them about confining the movements of women. Earlier this month, the Taliban barred female employees from entering the ministry of women affairs in Kabul, allowing only males into the building.
