Latehar (Jharkhand), Sept 29: In Jharkhand, Deputy Commandant Rajesh Kumar of Border Security Forces (BSF) on deputation with Jharkhand Jaguar sacrificed during an anti-Naxal operation that occurred. This was between ultra outfit Jharkhand Jan-Mukti Parishad (JJMP) Naxals and security forces held late night in Latehar district.
The encounter took place in Turidih Saliya forest area of Latehar district. Kumar was airlifted from Latehar to Ranchi for medical treatment where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.
“He sacrificed his life in the line of duty. He received bullet injuries during encounter. He was airlifted to Ranchi for treatment where he was declared dead by doctors. In retaliatory fire security forces gunned down one extremist. We are trying to establish his identity. Security forces also recovered some sophisticated weapons from the encounter site. Combing operation is going on,” said Sanjay Anand Latekar, additional DG (Operation) of Jharkhand Police.
Jharkhand Police spokesperson ADG Amol V Homkar also confirmed that one Naxalite has been killed in this encounter and massive arms and ammunition has been seized by police. Police forces along with Jharkhand Jaguar forces were on a search operation in the dense forest areas of Latehar district. Mr Homkar said that search operation in the area is still going on after the encounter. DGP Jharkhand Niraj Sinha today met the family members of the martyr this morning.

According to the police, the number of extremists was around 15 and led by JJMP chief Pappu Lohara or Lavlesh was leading the armed squad of extremists. Pappu Lohara has been carrying cash prize of Rs 10 lakh on his head. JJMP is a relatively a small left wing extortion gang. If local residents are to be believed, Pappu Lohara has been operating from this area from the past one and half years.
Notably, during a meeting on anti-naxal operation chaired by union home minister Amit Shah on September 26 in New Delhi, Jharkhand chief minister had claimed that naxal incidents have declined in Jharkhand.
