Panaji, September 29: Avertano Furtado, who was earlier a minister in a Manohar Parrikar-led government in Goa, joined the Congress here on Tuesday. This development came after Faleiro quit the Congress as well as resigned as a legislator and will be joining the Trinamool Congress Party.
BJP has now welcomed what it described the beginning of the ‘political tourism in Goa.’
The Goa CM Pramod Sawant, said in a function, “We are promoting medical tourism, spiritual tourism, we are promoting hinterland tourism and political tourism. I feel it has started in Goa. Elections are close. I welcome all kinds of tourism, so that all my Goan brothers and sisters have access to a new business in Goa. Tourist business should increase in Goa.”
The former Goa Chief Minister and the former state Congress President, Luizinho Faleiro, left for Kolkata a day after resigning as primary member of the Congress party and as a member of Goa Legislative Assembly. Faleiro is expected to join the Trinamool Congress today.
Faleiro announced his resignation on Monday, but did not express his future plans, only saying he would “definitely support Mamata Congress.”
Faleiro is supposedly upset with the Congress leadership for not paying heed to his protests over letting Girish Chodankar continue being state party president. Faleiro expects to lead the state unit of the Trinamool Congress in the upcoming state elections.
The Congress, which was first surprised due to Faleiro’s move, started holding meetings with Faleiro loyalists. Dinesh Gundu Rao, Goa in charge, called on former Panaji mayor, Surendra Furtado and former MLA Agnelo Fernandes, who have been asked to meet Congress leadership in Delhi to avoid any more abandonments.
