Chandigarh, Sept 28: Days after Captain Amarinder Singh stepped down as the state chief minister, Navjot Singh Sidhu put down his papers from the post of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, a move that has fuelled more in the Punjab Congress crisis.
This ongoing crisis in the state comes before the re-election in the 2022 Assembly polls. Two months after taking over as the new chief of the Punjab Congress, while resigning he said, "The collapse of a man's character stems from the compromise corner. I can never compromise on Punjab's future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab. Therefore, I hereby resign as the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. I will continue to serve the Congress".

In yet another development, former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh's Delhi visit amid speculation about his future course of action. According to the reports, Amarinder might be meeting Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda. It will be Captain Singh's first visit to the national capital after he resigned on 18 September.

Sidhu was appointed as the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief earlier in July amid an escalating tension within the Punjab Congress. Along with him, Congress had also appointed four working presidents for the Punjab unit — Sangat Singh Gilzian, Sukhwinder Singh Danny, Pawan Goel and Kuljit Singh Nagra.
