Lal Chowk, August 07: Wonderful news has come from Kashmir, as for the first time in history, Srinagar's iconic clock tower has been illuminated in Tricolour on Friday, ahead of India's Independence Day on August 15.
Tweeting the pictures of the illuminated clock tower, Srinagar Mayor Junaid Mattu informed that new clocks were being fitted. "We have illuminated the Clock Tower ('Ghanta Ghar') at Lal Chowk in colors of the Tricolour ahead of Independence Day. New clocks fitted," Srinagar Mayor Junaid Mattu tweeted.
Lal Chowk is one of the sensitive areas of Jammu Kashmir. It should be noted that there was a time when hosting a tricolor was not even allowed at Lal Chowk in Srinagar.
This is the first time that the clock tower was illuminated in tricolor. The first noticeable flag hoisting at Lal Chawk was done in 1992. It was in 1992 when the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Murli Manohar Joshi, and Narendra Modi hoisted the tricolor.
