Dehradun, July 03: A few days after meeting BJP’s top leaders JP Nadda and Amit Shah in Delhi, Uttarakhand Chief Minister
Tirath Singh Rawat stepped down from his post and submitted his resignation to Governor Baby Rani Maurya on Friday night.
After submitting his resignation, Rawat said, "Due to constitutional crisis, I have submitted my resignation to the Governor."
On the other hand, a BJP has called a BJP legislative party meeting at party headquarters Dehradun at 3 p.m. on Saturday. During the meeting, the party members will select Rawat's successor and central observer. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, the state unit in charge, and national General Secretary, Dushyant Gautam, and Kaushik are also going to attend the meeting.
He stepped down from his post four months after taking oath as Chief Minister.Rawat was sworn in as Chief Minister in March, a little over a year to the Uttarakhand election. Tirath Singh Rawat became the chief minister with the shortest tenure (84 days) in Uttarakhand’s history.
It should be noted that Rawat is currently a Lok Sabha MP and as per the rules, had to become an elected MLA within six months of taking over. However, it was unlikely bypolls would be held before his deadline of 10 September.
