Priya Malik wins gold medal at Cadet World Championship

New Delhi, July 26: Indian daughters are making the nation proud every day! A day after Weigtlifter Mirabai Chanu won a first silver medal at Tokyo Olympic, now another Indian daughter, wrestler Priya Malik won a gold medal for the country at the World Cadet Wrestling Championship.

Malik clinched the gold medal in the women’s 73kg weight category by defeating Belarus rival Kseniya Patapovich 5-0 in the final round. With that, she has become the first athlete to win a gold medal for India in World Wrestling Championship.
 
 
Priya Malik hails from Jind in Haryana and is a student of Choudhary Bharat Singh Memorial School. Her father Jayabhagwan Nidani is an Indian army veteran. Earlier, Priya Malik had also won the gold medal in the 2019 edition of Khelo India in Pune and she then went on to clinch gold at the 17th School Games held in Delhi.
 
 
 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated all the medallists from the 2021 World Cadet Wrestling Championships. “Our sportspersons continue to make us proud. India wins 13 medals, including 5 Golds at the World Cadet Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Congratulations to our team and best wishes for their future endeavours,” PM Modi tweeted.
 
 
 
Before Priya Malik, Indian wrestler- Varsha had won the bronze medal on Thursday by defeating Turkey’s Duygu Gen in the 65kg category. Apart from these wins, Priya also won two more gold medals the following year in 2020.
 
This gold medal has come a day after, another Indian daughter, Mirabai Chanu won Silver in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics in the weightlifting 49 kg category. Chanu lifted 87 kg in snatch whereas she lifted 115 kgs in the clean and jerk category.
With that, it seems like the Indian Women are making the country with their accomplishments at the top sporting level.
