Tokyo Olympics: PT Usha requests Kerala CM to vaccinate athletes on a priority

Thiruvananthapuram, June 07: Ahead of the Tokyo Olympics and other National games, former Olympian and Asian Championship gold medallist PT Usha urged Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to vaccinate sportspersons and their coaching staff, support staff against the covid 19 virus. She further stressed that the sports section should not be ignored.

“A humble request to @CMOKerala to vaccinate sportspersons, their coaches, support staff & medical team, who will participate in the forthcoming National & other competition on priority,” she tweeted. Usha is a former athlete. She had won 11 medals in the Asian Games, including four gold in the 1986 edition.
 
 
 
Earlier, PM Modi also directed that every qualified and probable athlete, support staff, and officials traveling to Tokyo for the mega sporting event must be vaccinated as soon as possible.
 
According to the sports ministry, around 120 athletes and 27 para-athletes have received their first dose of the vaccine while 58 athletes and four para-athletes have got their second dose. Moreover, 114 coaches and support staff have got their first dose while 37 members have received their second dose as well.
 
 
Tokyo Olympics will begin on July 23 and the Games will run up to August 8 this year. The event was slated to be held last year, but it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
