Jammu, June 30: Ending the 148-year-old tradition, Manoj Sinha led Jammu Kashmir led administration took the historic decision and canceled residential accommodations of ''Darbar Move'' employees in Jammu and Srinagar. The officials have been asked to vacate their quarters in the twin capital cities within three weeks.
In the notice J&K administration said, "In pursuance to Government Order No. 354-JK(GAD) of 2021 dated 20.04.2021, 365-JK(GAD) of 2021 dated 25.04.2021, 366-JK(GAD) of 2021 dated 25.04.2021 and 378-JK(GAD) of 2021 dated. 26.04.2021, the sanction is hereby accorded to the cancellation of allotment of officers/officials at Srinagar as indicated at Annexure-A to this order who are stationed at Jammu, and cancellation of allotment of officers/officials at Jammu as per Annexure-B to this order who are stationed at Srinagar."
"Residential accommodation of The officers/officials indicated at Annexure-A and B shall vacate their Government residential accommodation under his/her occupation within 21 days from the date of issuance of this order," it added.
This move will save govts Rs 200 crore per year, which will be used for the welfare of the deprived sections. It should be noted that the decision comes after days after L-G announced an end to the age-old practice. On June 20, he announced that the Jammu and Kashmir administration has completely transitioned to e-office, thereby ending the practice of the biannual ''darbar move''.
About Durbar Move
Darbar Move is a system under which the J&K administration functions for six months from Jammu and six months from Srinagar. This system of governance was initiated by Maharaja Gulab Singh in 1872 to escape the harsh weather across the state.
Darbar's move was halted due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. It was then J&k administration shifted to e-office. Following which govt converted over two crore pages from 3.50 lakh physical files of various government offices into digital format and uploaded into the new e-office project implemented by the Union Territory's Civil Secretariat.
