Srinagar, Jammu 22: The big breaking news has come from the Kashmir valley as, after the round of the discussion at Farooq Abdullah's Gupkar Road residence, the People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration has just announced that they will attend the all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 24th of June.
Alliance chairperson Farooq Abdullah made this announcement and said that he will attend the June 24 meeting along with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti and CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami.
Peoples Democratic Party leader Mehbooba Mufti, Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami will also attend the all-party meeting. The alliance, however, said that there will be no compromise on Article 370 and Article 35-A, provisions that are done and dusted as per the Indian Government.
PAGD is an alliance of six political parties of J&K, including the National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was formed following the Centre’s decision to abrogate Article 370 and split J&K into two Union Territories in August 2019.
The Centre has sent the invitation to 14 political leaders from J&K, including four former chief ministers. The invitees include four former chief ministers National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, his son Omar Abdullah, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti.
The meeting is expected to lay out a roadmap for the conduct of assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, which was formed with a Legislative Assembly after the split; Ladakh is the other UT, sans a Legislative Assembly.
