New Delhi June 17: A day after UP police lodged FIR against Twitter, self-claimed fact-checker Mohammed Zubair and others for sharing the fake news, Delhi police has now filed a fresh complaint against Swara Bhasker and Twitter India Managing Director Manish Maheshwari, for spreading Fake News and Disrupting Social Harmony in Loni Case.
The complaint has been filed at Delhi's Tilak Marg Police station by advocate Amit Acharya. Meanwhile, the Police are yet to file an FIR over the complaint.
According to the police, Acharya has sought an FIR under IPC Sections 153 (provocation for rioting), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), 295A (acts intended to outrage religious feelings), 505 (mischief), and 120B (criminal conspiracy).
In the complaint Acharya said Bhaskar stated these as users have lakhs of followers on social media handles, the celebs should be responsible and through their Twitter handle they started "propaganda to spread hate amongst the citizens".
"The tweets did not indicate their personal opinions instead showed the wrong intentions of the users to initiate conspiracy against religious harmony in the country to encourage hate and enmity between the religious groups. Also, these tweets were shared on social media at a very large scale and thousands of users have liked, Quoted, and also Re-tweeted the same," reads a part of the complaint reads.
The Delhi Police said it has launched a probe. This comes after Indian filmmaker Ashoke Pandit tagged UP Police and demanded strict action against Bhasker for inciting communal violence.
On June 14, Alt News cofounder Muhammed Zubair and several others gave the incident a communal color. They Tweeted that the man was threatened at gunpoint, beaten, assaulted, and the perpetrators forcefully chopped off his beard. The video and the narrative soon went viral on social media.
Retweeting that video, Swara started paddeling the fake news. In her tweet, had written, "Agree. I can believe a bunch of Muslims beat up an old Muslim man but forced him to chant #JaiShriRam cut off his beard?! That the whole story? Anyway. Love how Sanghis r conveniently ignoring the prime accused that Pravesh beat the old man & forced him to chant!."

“RW & Sanghis vomiting on my timeline ‘coz Ghaziabad police named 3 Muslims. Jackasses the prime accused is Pravesh Gujjar. The man is on camera forcing the old man to chant #JaiShriRam Yes it is a desecration of my God and my religion and I’m ashamed.. as shud you be,” she said in a Tweet. Not only that but, Swara also gone further and claimed that she can hear the alleged accused ‘forcing’ the old man to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in a video where the audio was muted.
Yesterday, Uttar Pradesh Police has filed the FIR against Twitter Inc, Twitter Communications India, news portal The Wire, scribes Mohammed Zubair and Rana Ayyub, and senior journalist and author Saba Naqvi, besides Congress leaders Salman Nizami, Masqoor Usmani, and Sama Mohammad for sharing the video clip on the social media.
