PM Modi dials up Maha CM, discuss Cyclone Tauktae related situation

Mumbai, May 17: As the Cyclonic storm Tauktae led to heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dialed up the state Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and discussed the Cyclone Tauktae related situation in the state. During the call, PM has assured the Centre's assistance in rescue operations and other relief measures.
The IMD has further upgraded the warning to extremely heavy rainfall in Mumbai for the next few hours. Due to heavy rainfall and waterlogging the local train services were affected in Mumbai. The Bandra-Worli sea link was closed for traffic in view of the strong winds and people were asked to take alternate routes.
According to the IMD Cyclone Tauktae has intensified into an "extremely severe cyclonic storm" and it will cross the western coast of Gujarat in the early morning of May 18.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday chaired a review meeting with the Chief Ministers of Gujarat and Maharashtra, and the Administrator of Daman and Diu and Dadra Nagar Haveli to assess their preparedness to tackle the situation.
As per the information given by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Director General SN Pradhan NDRF has deployed more than 50 teams in Gujarat ahead of the landfall. Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has stationed 16 transport aircraft and 18 helicopters on standby.
Earlier on Saturday, PM Modi had reviewed the preparedness to deal with the cyclone's fallout in a high-level meeting that was attended by several ministries and agencies concerned.
