Hyderabad, May 13: On one side when the country is battling with the second wave of pandemic, a massive crowd was seen flouting social distancing norms near Hyderabad's Charminar area on Thursday ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr. More shockingly many were also seen without masks.
The massive crowd was seen even after the state has gone under lockdown for 10 days to "break the chain of covid." The mass gathering is a big source of worry for Telangana who currently has 60,000 active coronavirus cases in the state.
A news agency posted a video of the incident on social media. In the video, most of the people were seen shopping without wearing masks and there was no social distancing in place. The huge crowds are also being witnessed at Gulzar Houz, Laad Bazar, Shahran, Pathergatti, Patel market, and other nearby places.
Anticipating festival crowds, Telangana Home Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali has said not more than four people can offer prayers at any mosque during Ramzan, Eid-ul-Fitr namaaz, or Friday prayers. No public gatherings would be allowed in open places and people must offer prayers inside their homes, the minister said, adding that this time the severity of the virus was far worse and "we cannot allow the infection to spread".
The incident has shown how K. Chandrashekar Rao-led Telangana is handling the COVID situation in the state. The second wave of the coronavirus pandemic has left the nation struggling with 3-4 lakh new COVID-19 cases being clocked every day.
