Srinagar, April 24: Lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha Saturday imposed a 34-hour weekend curfew in Jammu and Kashmir from Saturday to steam the spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19). Weekend curfew in U&T will begin from tonight 8 pm to Monday at 6 am.
Essential and emergency services will be allowed during the weekend curfew but all other markets and commercial institutions will remain closed from 8 pm on Saturday to 6 am on Monday, the L-G’s office added.
"Complete corona curfew to be observed in the Union Territory from 8 PM, 24th April (Saturday) till 6 AM, April 26 (Monday). Essential and emergency services to be allowed. All market, commercial institutions will remain closed," the L-G’s office tweeted.
Earlier, the Jammu and Kashmir administration had imposed a night curfew in all the 20 districts of the UT. It had also imposed various curbs in the UT and said that public transport will ply with only 50 percent seating capacity.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir surged to 1,56,344 on Friday as 1,937 more people tested positive for the disease while the death toll climbed to 2,111 with a record daily jump of 19 fatalities, officials said.
