New Delhi, April 19: In a very daring rescue, a railwayman ran on the tracks, risking his own life, saved the life of a child from getting crushed under an oncoming train at a station in Thane district in Maharashtra.
In a 29-second video of the incident shared by the Central Railways’ Mumbai division, a 30-year-old woman, who seems to be blind, is seen walking with her six-year-old son on the platform when he accidentally slips and falls onto the railway tracks.
The railwayman, Mayur Shelke, is seen rushing towards the child and pushing him back onto the platform just in time before the express train enters the platform at Vangani Railway Station.

Shelke was also lauded from Railway Minister Piyush Goyal. In a tweet, he said, "Very proud of Mayur Shelke, Railwayman from the Vangani Railway Station in Mumbai who has done an exceptionally courageous act, risked his own life & saved a child’s life."

Goyal also tweeted in Hindi saying, "The young man, who put himself in danger to save the life of a child, said that "I got so much from the railway, I was only doing my duty. His act of bravery cannot be compared to any award or money, but he will be rewarded for fulfilling his responsibility, and for inspiring humanity with his work."
The Central Railway’s also announced an award for his bravery.
