“Based on an order from the Ministry of Home Affairs we have taken over the case registered at Gamdevi police station with CR number 35/20. Process of registration of FIR is underway,” an NIA official said.

The agency will further added that it is in the process of re-registering the case.
On 25 February, a car with 20 gelatin sticks inside was found near Ambani's multi-story residence in south Mumbai, on February 25. A letter was also found inside the vehicle. The vehicle was seized by police then. Police said that the vehicle was stolen from Airoli-Mulund Bridge on February 18.

The owner of the car named Mansukh Hiren was found dead under mysterious circumstances. Hiren's body was found from Kalwa creek in Thane last Friday.

Earlier on Monday Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said the state police were “capable” of solving the case. He also added that the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) had registered a murder case and launched investigations into the mystery of Thane businessman Mansukh Hiren's body being recovered from the Thane Creek wetlands on March 5. Earlier the case was being probed by the Maharashtra Police.
