Ahmednagar, March 17: Fighting the COVID-19 strain, Former Union Minister Dilip Gandhi breathed his last on Wednesday morning. The 70-year-old Bharatiya Janata Party leader had tested positive for COVID-19 and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi saddened by his demise said that Gandhi had made numerous efforts to strengthen the BJP in Maharashtra.
"Saddened by the demise of former MP and Minister Shri Dilip Gandhi Ji. He will be remembered for his rich contributions to community service and helping the poor. He made numerous efforts to strengthen the BJP in Maharashtra. Condolences to his family and supporters. Om Shanti", Modi tweeted.
Former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu also took to Twitter to express his grief. "Very sad to know about unfortunate passing away of my dear friend, former colleague in #LokSabha Shri Dilip Gandhi, who was always active, represented the people of Ahmadnagar in Maharashtra very ably. We will always miss him", he tweeted.
Dilip Gandhi was three-time MP from Ahmednagar constituency. He was Union Minister of State, Ministry of Shipping from 29 January 2003 to 15 March 2004. In 2014, Gandhi was re-elected with a margin of more than 200,000 votes in 2014.
