New Delhi, March 16: Unfortunately, Sudha Kongara’s directorial and Tamil megastar Suriya's Soorarai Pottru has missed out on getting a nomination and slipped out of the Oscars 2021 race. However, The White Tiger starring Priyanka, Adarsh Gourav, and Rajkummar Rao is still in the race. Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas announced the list of Oscars nominations.

 

The movie had emerged as the only Indian film amongst the 366 films eligible for Best Picture in the Academy Awards. It competed with 366 other films to get selected under the categories of Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Actress in initial nominations. However, it got failed to make it to the prestigious list.

 

 

Moreover, The White Tiger has been nominated in the Best Adapted Screenplay category. The White Tiger is a 2021 drama film directed by Ramin Bahrani. The film is an adoption of Aravind Adiga's 2008 novel of the same name, the story is about Balram, who comes from a poor Indian village and uses his wit and cunning to escape from poverty.

 

 

The 93rd Academy Awards will be held on April 25, 2021. The movies which have been selected for the nomination are The Father (Sony Pictures Classics), Judas and the Black Messiah (Warner Bros.), Mank (Netflix), Minari (A24), Nomadland (Searchlight Pictures), Promising Young Woman (Focus Features), Sound of Metal (Amazon Studios), The Trial of the Chicago 7 (Netflix).

 

 

Soorarai Pottru is based on the biography of Capt Gopinath, founder of the low-cost airline, Air Deccan. It was released directly on Amazon Prime Video on November 12, 2020. Notably, Soorarai Pottru was selected as one among ten Indian films to be screened under the 'Best Foreign Film' category at the 78th Golden Globe Awards.
