India to fund reconstruction of 6 secondary schools in Nepal

Kathmandu, Feb 20: India and Nepal signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the reconstruction of six secondary schools in the Himalayan nation. The MoU was signed between the Indian Embassy and Nepal's Central Level Project Implementation Unit (Education) of Nepal Reconstruction Authority (NRA).

 

 

India is in full swing in boosting relations with Nepal with the recent rollout of vaccines as grant assistance and now going ahead in improving the educational infrastructure of the Himalayan Nation. The MoU was for the construction of six secondary schools at a total cost of Nepali Rupees 518 million, according to a statement by the Indian Embassy.

 

 

The Indian Embassy and CLPIU (Education) of NRA was also signed for the construction of six secondary schools at a total cost of NR 518 million. Out of these six secondary schools, a ceremony for the reconstruction of Shree KantiBhairab Secondary School at Kageshwari Municipality was held on Thursday.

 

 

Of the six schools, four including Kanti Bhairab Secondary School, Champa Devi Secondary School, Dhapasi Secondary School and Bishnu Devi Secondary School are located in the Kathmandu district, and the remaining two Siddheshwar Secondary School and Harisiddhi Secondary School are located in Kavre district. Of the six schools, a groundbreaking ceremony of one was held yesterday amid a ceremony in Thali of Kathmandu.

 

 

Shree Kanti Bhairab Secondary School is being reconstructed at a cost of NR 266 million and will be built as per earthquake-resilient reconstruction norms of the Government of Nepal. The new three-floor building will have 30 class rooms, library and lab/practical rooms, separate sanitation facilities for boys and girls and also furniture.

 

The Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee, a premier institute in India in the field of earthquake-resilient reconstruction, will provide technical hand-holding for the construction of these schools. Government of India has committed a total grant of US $ 250 million for reconstruction projects in the education, health, cultural heritage and housing sectors. For the education sector, India has committed a grant of US $ 50 million.

 

 

The signing of the memorandum took place at a ceremony for the reconstruction of Shree Kanti Bhairab Secondary School at Kageshwari Municipality in Kathmandu. The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Chief of Embassy of India, Kathmandu Namgya C. Khampa and Chief Executive Officer of National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) Sushil Gywali.
