Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam! India supplies over 229.7 lakh of COVID-19 vaccines to global community

New Delhi, February 13: As the India has emerged as the ‘Pharmacy of the World’, the country has shipped a total of 229.7 lakh doses of coronavirus vaccines to countries worldwide under the Vaccine Maitri initiative.

Out of this 64.7 lakh doses were supplied as a grant, while 165 lakh doses have been supplied by India to various countries on a commercial basis.

During the press briefing MEA Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said, " As of date, we have supplied a total of 229.7 lakh doses to the global community. Of these, 64.7 lakh doses have been supplied as a grant while 165 lakh doses have been supplied on a commercial basis."
 
 
He further informed, that the government is now likely to also provide supplies to more countries in Africa, Latin America, and the Pacific Island States. Anurag added, that New Delhi is in the process of dispatching additional consignments to Africa, Latin America, and the Pacific island states and the shipment is being aligned as per the country’s domestic manufacturing and India’s vaccination program.
 
 
 

Under India’s Vaccine Maitri initiative, the country dispatched millions of doses manufactured at the world’s largest Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) as humanitarian aid to the smaller nations. Beyond India’s immediate neighborhood, vaccines have been sent as grants to countries in the Indian Ocean region, West Asia, and the Caribbean.
 
 

These countries include Bangladesh (20 lakh), Myanmar (17 lakh), Nepal (10 lakh), Bhutan (1.5 lakh), the Maldives (1 lakh), Mauritius (1 lakh), Seychelles (50,000 ), Sri Lanka (5 lakh), Bahrain (1 lakh), Oman (1 lakh), Afghanistan (5 lakh), Barbados (1 lakh) and Dominica (70,000).
  
 
 Earlier, Canada has also asked for India covid vaccine, instead of going for Pfizer vaccine.
