New Delhi, December 08: A row of controversy has erupted after, All India United Democratic Front MLA Aminul Islam claimed that Mughal ruler Aurangzeb donated lands for more than 400 temples during his rule, including Kamakhya Temple, in Guwahati.
Speaking with the private media house, Islam said, "I had said what the nation saw during the Mughal rule in the country. A historian also wrote in his book that Aurangzeb had donated lands to more than 400 temples during his rule. Other Mughal rulers also donated lands for the temples, priests, including Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati."
Reacting to this, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma termed Islam’s statement "disrespect towards Indian culture Under my government, such statements will not be tolerated. No one should drag Kamakhya, Sankardev, and even Prophet Mohammad."
Meanwhile, a Hindu organisation called Kutumba Surakshya Mission has filed a complaint against the comments made by the AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam."Two-three days back, Md. Aminul Islam, MLA, Dhing Constituency made a very serious statement regarding the originality and the establishment of Maa Kamakhya Temple referring to the name of a Mughal King, Aurangzeb. After, analyzing his statements and body language we found it very offensive, abusive, misleading, etc", the complaint letter read.
It further said that by doing so the Dhing MLA tried to abuse the faith of all Hindus, molest the dignity of Maa Kamakhya, distort the facts behind the establishment of the temple, mock the values of ‘Sanatan Dharma’ and age-long ‘Hindu culture and heritage related to Maa Kamakhya and propagate hidden Islamic fundamental agendas to disturb the sovereignty and the dignity of the nation.
