Congress leader Rahul Gandhi seems to have gone berserk on the issue of Hindu and Hindutva so much so that he himself appeared confused over the issue. At times he is seen claiming to be a ‘janeudhari brahmin’ with ‘Dattatreya as his gotra’ and at other times he claims to be a Muslim. He exhibits his ignorance over wearing the ‘janeu’ and has no qualms over offering namaz in the mosque!
However, there is a method in his madness in criticizing everything that is Hindu. In the first place, RaGa does not know the meaning of Hindu and it would be anybody's guess as to how much effort he would have to take to understand what Hindutva means. In fact, he does not have the authority and right to talk about these two words.
In 2019, his Indira Gandhi-like-looking sister Priyanka Vadra had said, “I am a patriot but not a nationalist”. Now the poor lady, who does not have the capability to understand that patriotism and nationalism are the two sides of the same coin, made herself a laughing stock. Her ulterior idea was to create confusion about these terms but she did not succeed in her effort.
Now her brother, who is not even politically or academically qualified to comment on such words, is making himself look like a clown by defaming Hindu and Hindutva. On many occasions in the recent past he has been saying that he is a Hindu but not a Hindutvavadi. Years ago Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi had opposed the idea of 'Total Independence' (Purna Swaraj) because there was no suitable English word to explain that idea! Veer Savarkar in his satirical Marathi book 'Gandhi Gondhal' had mentioned about this and quipped, can any student of middle school tell Gandhi the meaning of 'Purna Swaraj' in English?
It seems to be a similar case with RaGa in respect of Hindu and Hindutva. But this exercise is not to be easily discarded as a mere mockery by the scion of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty. It is more than what appears on the surface. It smacks of a greater and deeper conspiracy the Congress party is indulging in with an eye on the 2024 general elections.
Look at the events. First, Salman Khurshid, a senior Congress leader compared Hindu and Hindutva with Islamic terrorist organizations like Boko Haram and ISIS. Earlier, Shashi Tharoor ‘the most learned and intelligent’ among the Congressmen also tried to spread confusion through his two volumes, “Why I am a Hindu” and “Why I am not a Hindu”. And now Rahul Gandhi exhorted the Congress workers to work to overthrow the 'Hindutvavadi government' lest they destroy the democratic polity of India. Therefore, it appears that the Congress party is following a single-point agenda of defaming and maligning Hindu and Hindutva as it lacks any solid agenda for development to effectively counter Prime Minister Narendra Modi’ development juggernaut.
With their calculated diatribe against Hindu and Hindutva all these leaders have served on a platter a much needed chance to all those left-liberal and multi-communal western-influenced writers to vomit venom against the Hindu nationalism which is the soul of India. This section of so-called opinion makers has been engaged in defaming and maligning the Hindu nationalism ever since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister and concentrated on national security issues. They have not let go any chance to criticize Hindu culture, Hindutva and nationalism.
The prestige of India has attained a new height in the comity of nations following the surgical strike, air strike on the terrorist hideouts, and dealing a strong blow to the Chinese in the Galwan valley. But the Congress party and its leaders do not have the generosity to congratulate the government for these achievements. On the contrary, they are defaming and maligning Hindutva by comparing it with the Islamic terrorist organizations. This must be stopped at any cost.
Nationalism dominated the world scenario during our freedom movement. Then it was equated with humanism, democracy etc. But in the 20th century and later nationalism became a derogatory word and was equated with intolerance, fundamentalism, dynasty-ism, anti-minority, imperialism and invasion. The new definitions of nationalism viz. humanitarian nationalism, dynasty nationalism, territorial nationalism, spiritual nationalism etc. also cropped up. All these definitions cannot be compared with Hindu nationalism as this concept is altogether different from these terms. It denotes integral humanism based on concepts of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' and not reactionary as it is viewed and understood in the western world ideologies.
Those who are trying to equate Hindu nationalism with western reactionary nationalism in order to defame it need to be stopped forthwith. Hindu nationalism is not reactionary but it is natural and fundamental. Hindu culture and nation is in existence from days of yore and is the very soul of Hindu nation.
Those who fail to understand this difference between the western and Hindu nationalism are only trying to malign this concept which is humanitarian to its core. The Supreme Court of India has ruled that Hindu and Hindutva is a way of life in India. But leaders like Rahul Gandhi do not care even about the Supreme Court and deliberately defaming and maligning Prime Minister Modi, BJP and the RSS.
These people are damn sure in their hearts that they could not win the elections hereafter. In 2019 Priyanka Vadra commented on BJP's victory that this was the victory of ‘venomous and blind nationalism’. By commenting so she had not only cast aspersions on the word nationalism but insulted those crores of voters who had voted BJP to power with a comfortable majority. That none of these voters had questioned Priyanka Vadra on this insult was a different issue. Still, she is not tired of hurling allegations of intolerance. These leaders become vocal only when elections approach. The people should learn to identify such leaders who talk of venomous and blind nationalism and follow it.
The Congress leaders conveniently forget that this is basically a Hindu country and the term Hindu denotes the national identity of all those who live and love this nation as their motherland. Hindutva is the term that denotes their way of life. Comparing it with terrorist organizations like Boko Haram or ISIS or any attempt to segregate Hindu from Hindutva should be construed as insult of the court and those indulging in it should be tried for contempt of the court.
