Indresh Kumar addressing International Christmas Celebration at Hotel ITC Mourya in New Delhi on Dec 20

New Delhi, Dec 22: Addressing an International Christmas celebration function at Hotel ITC Mourya here on Dec 20, 2021, held under the aegis of the Global Anglican Future Conference and Anglican Bishops Council of India, Indresh Kumar, senior RSS leader and patron of Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) said that a new India is taking birth and appealed to the Indian and Global Christian community to give up religious fundamentalism, desist from activities like religious conversions and discrimination of any kind and join hands with the majority for development and progress.

The event was attended by over 90 archbishops and bishops from various parts of the country and some from the countries like the US and the UK, as well as religious leaders from Muslim and other communities. Union Minister R. K. Singh and US Archbishop Robert Gosselin and other dignitaries were conspicuous by their presence at the function.

Indresh Kumar called upon the gathering to take a pledge that they would work towards creating at an atmosphere of religious peace, brotherhood, and respect for each other’s religions. Today, there is a question before all of us as to whether we want a world with religious conflicts or a world without religious conflicts, gender discrimination, untouchability, and cruelty, he said.

Making an observation about the ‘change’ in the approach and outlook of the Christian community towards the RSS, Indresh Kumar claimed that there has been a change in the thinking of the Christian community towards the Sangh over the years as they realized that they did not gain anything by ''hating'' the RSS.

A ''new India is taking birth'' with the change in the thinking of the Christian community in India towards the RSS and its idea of nationalism, he told reporters here on the sidelines of an event held to celebrate Christmas under the aegis of the Global Anglican Future Conference and Anglican Bishops Council of India.

This is the second such event the RSS leader has attended in the national capital within a week to celebrate Christmas with the community members along those from the Muslim and other communities.

On December 16, Kumar had attended an event organized by Bharatiya Christian Manch to celebrate Christmas at Nagaland House in the National Capital and called upon the participants to spread the message of ''religious harmony, brotherhood, love and peace'' while addressing the gathering.

Later interacting with the reporters and mediapersons on the sidelines of the function Indresh Kumar denied that this outreach effort was aimed at reaping electoral benefits for the ruing BJP. The two Christmas events organized were aimed at reaching out to the Christian community and not with an eye on the Goa Assembly elections due early next year, he clarified.

Kumar said, “It is not linked with the elections. But, if it affects the elections, there is nothing wrong in it. Over the years there has been a change in the thinking of the Christian community. They are realizing that they hated the RSS and its idea of nationalism but did not gain anything and that did not get anything from those they voted for all these years”.

"They are realizing that the RSS and its (idea of nationalism) are quite different from what they earlier understood. A new India is taking birth," the RSS leader told reporters.

"India is the best place for this. Charity begins at home. If all Indians pledge that we will create religious peace, religious brotherhood, religious respect for each other and not religious fundamentalism, things will change," Mr. Kumar said.

He called upon the people of various communities to follow their religion and pay respect to the other's religion.

“You will see every religion have so many works of literature that vehemently criticise others' religions. I sometimes see the literature of Radhaswami, Nirankari, Church, Sanatan, Arya Samaj, Sikhs -- none of them has left any opportunity to attack others,”' he said and asked, “'When we are serving poisons, from where amrit (nectar) will come?”'
