New Delhi, Dec 22: The participation of top RSS leader Indresh Kumar in the International Christmas celebration program jointly organized by the Global Anglican Future Conference and Anglican Bishops Council of India on Dec 22nd at Hotel ITC Mourya is seen as an event that could have far reaching impact on the political, religious and social scenario in the coming days.

Earlier on December 16, Indresh Kumar had attended a Christmas Program organized by the Bharatiya Christian Manch at Nagaland House in New Delhi.

The presence of over 90 Archbishops, bishops, diplomats, Union Minister, MPs and members of the Muslim and other communities at the function emanated the message of religious harmony, peace and brotherhood besides an appeal to stand as a cohesive society for the development of the country.

The American Archbishop Robert Gosselin was conspicuous by his presence and shared the dais with Indresh Kumar and his admiration for India and the Modi Government spoke a lot about the change in the approach of the Christian community at the global level towards the BJP government, the RSS and its idea of nationalism.

He also showered praise on the Indian doctors, engineers, IT professionals who are contributing in building the American economy.

This program is also being viewed as fructifying the recent meeting between Pope Francis and Prime Minister Narendra Modi when the latter visited the Vatican during his Europe visit. Besides, this event disseminated a clear message to the Christian community that any attempt of religious conversion would not be tolerated henceforth.

A new script is being drafted as it was seen for the first time the coming together of Christian community and the RSS for hours at a program and exchanged thoughts besides giving a clear and loud message.

Indresh Kumar appealed to the Christian community and religious leaders to desist from religious bigotry and fundamentalism and conversion and join in the efforts to make India a ‘Word Teacher’ (Vishwa Guru).

He said that no religion preachers hatred and animosity towards the other religion. Issues can be sorted across the table, he said exuding confidence that India alone has the capacity and capability to lead the world to progress, peace, and brotherhood. He reiterated that India had been Vishwa Guru and will once again adore that position soon.

Political observers however could not resist their anxiety to draw political messages from this outreach exercise. They felt that this was done with an eye on coming Goa Assembly election due early next year and Christian vote counts much more there. While some of them expressed the view that this was aimed at breaking the minority vote bank of the Congress party for the 2024 elections.

Besides Goa, there are sizeable Christian voters in states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and the Northeastern States. Prime Minister Modi has set a target to reach out to 5 crore minority voters before the 2014 elections.

The exercise Indresh Kumar is engaged with is aimed at creating cordial relations with the minority communities. With the Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) he has already convinced a good number of Muslim voters in favor of the RSS and the BJP or at least blunted the edge of their animosity towards the BJP and Modi government.
