The so-called stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui on Sunday claimed that ‘hate’ has won and an artist has 'lost' after his scheduled show in Bengaluru got canceled. The stand-up comedian, who was earlier this year jailed for his allegedly derogatory remarks against Hindu deities, took to Twitter to hint that this may be the end of his ‘comedy’ career once again.
"Nafrat jeet hai, artist haar gaya. I’m done! Goodbye! INJUSTICE," said Munawar Faruqui, along with issuing a statement in which he alleged unfair treatment was done against him after his show in Bengaluru got cancelled.
He also claimed, "Putting me in the jail for the joke I never did to cancelling my shows which has nothing problematic in it. This is unfair". He added that in past two months, 12 of his shows were cancelled due to threats to venue and audience. He then said that this is perhaps the end and thanked his audience and his goodbye.
Munawar has been in limelight for 'wrong reasons. In the past, he has made indecent remarks at Hindu deities, the Godhra tragedy and Union home minister Amit Shah. Mocking the 2002 Godhra carnage, where several Hindus returning from Ayodhya were burnt alive by a Muslim mob, he said, "I was watching The Burning Train on TV. My father came and told me not to watch such nonsense and turned off the channel. I was like, ‘why so?’ He was like this is the video of Godhra kind. And this is a news channel. I thought it is a movie directed by Amit Shah, produced by RSS… I don’t know…," he said.
Munawar Faruqui then referred to the news about 2002 Godhra carnage as ‘cartoon’. He had also pointed out how he mocked the brutal massacre of Hindus in the Godhra carnage by claiming, “Marney ke baad jaltay hai na? (Hindus get burnt anyway after death).” This is one such example of him spreading hatred against Hindus. He has made fun of Hindus deities - Ram and Sita and had used derogatory remarks in the name of comedy. And audience sitting and laughing on this jokes sends a wrong message as many of them are youngsters.
It should be noted that he has not made such kinds of jokes referring to any other religion. 'Nafrat Jeet Gayi' said a comedian whose livelihood was based on cracking jokes on the Burning bodies of Hindus. Isn't it unfair Mr Munawar Faruqui? But no one will speak on such matters because come from an India where people get sensitive over deaths of Palestinians or support #BlackLiveMatters but justify jokes cracked on Godhra train tragedy victims.
People who are saying because he is Muslim, that is why he is being targetted, facts need to be speaken. Zakir Khan, who is one of the most popular stand-up comedian in India, is also Muslim but has won hearts with comedy, poetry and what not. No one is targetting because he does not speak ill of any religion.
