New Delhi, Nov 26: Ahead of Winter sessions starting on Monday, several Opposition parties, including the Congress and Trinamool Congress, have decided to boycott the Constitution Day event to be addressed by President Ram Nath Kovind in the Central Hall of Parliament Friday.

The reports suggests that this move came as all the like-minded parties have come together to boycott the celebrations of the events which also includes reading the Preamble. 14 parties including Congress, the Left, TMC, RJD, Shiv Sena, NCP, SP, IUML and DMK are boycotting the Constitution Day function.
 
 
Union minister Arjun Ram Meghwal has desribed this move as "disrepespectful" towards the Constitution of India. "Congress & 14 Opposition parties boycotting the Constitution Day celebrations in Parliament is disrespect to the Constitution of India. This proves that Congress can only respect leaders from the Nehru family and no other leader including BR Ambedkar," he said.

Notably, Congress leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Anand Sharma, and Jairam Ramesh have reached out to the other Opposition parties. This move is taking place just before the Winter Sessions of Parliament will commence on Monday. Opposition parties will take a coordinated position in Parliament at least on issues on which they hold a common view.
 
The parliamentary strategy group meeting also identified the issues to be raised in the House, including the repeal of the three contentious farm laws on the first working day of the session.The Opposition is all set to will demand a “legal guarantee” for MSP. Besides, President Ram Nath Kovind will lead the celebrations and Prime Minister, Vice President, and Lok Sabha Speaker will also take part in the celebrations with other dignitaries.
 
After the speech of the President, the nation will join him Live, in reading the Preamble of the Constitution. The President will also release the digital version of Constituent Assembly Debates, a digital version of a calligraphed copy of the Constitution of India and an updated version of the Constitution of India that will include all amendments to date. He will also inaugurate 'Online Quiz on Constitutional Democracy', as per the official statement.
