Shimla, November 23: Following the threats from the terror organisation, the Shimla administration has put the capital city of Himachal Pradesh on high alert and tightened security and safety measures on the Kalka-Shimla rail line.
According to reports, terror organisations have issued threats to attack temples and railway stations in Shimla. To avoid any mishap, the local administration has taken serious note of the threats and alerted state police.
The Station Superintendent of Shimla Railway Station, Joginder Singh, said that recently they had conducted a special meeting of the different departments of the railways in Shimla railway station and took the decision to strengthen the security and safety measures at the station.
"Our security forces including Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) are already on alert. In the meeting, we decided to push patrolling even more and regulate it in a better manner. We have also decided to make people aware of reporting suspicious articles, " he said.
The local police deployed in Shimla Heritage Railway Station are checking the passengers and luggage at the station on the arrival of each train. The police deployed here do not want to take any chances. Six trains are operational on the Kalka-Shimla heritage railway currently, which is the first preference of tourists arriving in Shimla.
The Indian railway segment between Kalka and Shimla is a popular tourist destination. Domestic and international tourists are drawn to the heritage destination and the toy train on the two-foot-six-inch narrow gauge railway.
Earlier this month, Ambala police arrested a suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) member for allegedly sending a letter to the office of the Ambala Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) threatening to bomb several railway stations and religious sites in Northern India.
