Panaji, November 22: Actress-turned-politician Hema Malini has been awarded the Indian Personality of the Year at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. The opening ceremony of the film festival was also attended by filmmaker Karan Johar and actor Salman Khan. Hema Malini said that the award is a fruit of her labour over the years.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur had first announced on November 18 that actor Hema Malini was conferred with the Indian Personality of the Year at IFFI. While talking to ANI after receiving the award today, the veteran actress said, “It's a fruit of my labour over the years. As an MP also, I do various works of Mathura. So that also creates an impact on the audience as earlier I was a dancer, film artist, and now an MP.”
 
 
The 52nd edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) commenced from November 20. It will go on till the November 28. It was founded back in 1952, and the film festival is held annually to celebrate the excellence of world cinema.

The hybrid event will showcase more than 300 films from across the world. The inaugural event was hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar and anchor Manish Paul.
