The saffron party’s uncontested victories came in five municipal bodies of Bishalgarh, Udaipur, Mohanpur, Ranirbazar, Santirbazar, and Kamalpur and Jirania Nagar panchayats, among other seats.

The outcome flattened the hype created for the West Bengal-based Trinamool Congress. It has given a major blow to two major opposition parties, the Trinamool Congress and the CPI-M.

For the remaining 222 seats, a total of 785 candidates are scheduled to contest on November 25, said an official of the state election commission. The votes will be counted on November 28. State Election Commissioner Manik Lal Dey said that the elections on November 25 would be held through the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to adhere to the COVID protocols.

Six BJP rebel candidates confirmed the withdrawal of nominations after the victory for the BJP. Interestingly, no other parties submitted nominations. According to ECI, eight candidates—four CPI (M), two Congress, one Forward Bloc, and one Independent—had withdrawn their candidatures from the Agartala Municipal Corporation.
