Govt issues guidelines for PM-CARES for Children scheme for children who lost their parents due to COVID-19

New Delhi, Oct 7: The Ministry of Women and Child Development has provided detailed guidelines for the PM CARES for Children Scheme. On May 29, 2021, Prime Minister Modi offered extensive support for children who have lost both parents owing to the COVID 19 pandemic.

The scheme's goal is to provide long-term comprehensive care and protection to children who have lost a parent(s) to the COVID pandemic, enabling their wellbeing through health insurance, empowering them through education, and preparing them for self-sufficiency with financial support when they reach the age of 23.
 
 
 
The PM CARES for Children scheme, among other things, provides support to these children through a convergent strategy, gap funding for schooling and health, a monthly stipend beginning at the age of 18 years, and a lump sum amount of Rs. 10 lakh upon reaching the age of 23 years.
 
To benefit from the PM CARES for Children Scheme, eligible children must be enrolled between May 29, 2021 (the date of the Prime Minister's announcement) and December 31, 2021. The Scheme is expected to continue until each designated recipient reaches the age of 23. The system provides benefits such as boarding and lodging assistance, assistance for pre-school and school education, assistance for further education, health insurance, and financial assistance, among other things.
