Uttarakhand issues new SOP for Char Dham Yatra as Nainital HC removes cap on no of pilgrims

According to the new SOP the locals are not required to register on the smart city portals before undertaking the yatra. Only those traveling from outside the state would need to register on the portal.

Dehradun, October 6: Amid the fear of third wave of Covid-19 pandemic, the Uttarakhand government announced a new SOP for Char Dham Yatra. This comes after the Nainital High Court gave its decision on sliding off the cap on number of pilgrims. According to the new SOP the locals are not required to register on the smart city portals before undertaking the yatra. Only those traveling from outside the state would need to register on the portal.

The SOP allows devotees to travel only 15 days after they have taken their second jab of Covid-19 vaccination, and for those who have not taken the vaccination need to provide an RT-PCR negative report. In case, if the authorities find or detect any person having Covid-19 symptoms, the devotees will be taken to the nearest health care facility for check-up.
Meanwhile, the Char Dham Devasthanam Board, which manages the Himalayan shrines and temples in the state, has barred entry into the sanctum sanctorum of three shrines Gangotri, Yamunotri, and Badrinath. Devotees would be allowed to enter the sanctum sanctorum in Kedarnath only, but not permitted to perform Jalabhishek or touch anything.
Earlier, Uttarakhand High Court had put a daily cap on the number of devotees visiting the famous Himalayan temples also known as the chardham, the high court said 800 pilgrims will be allowed in Kedarnath Dham, 1200 in Badrinath Dham, 600 in Gangotri and 400 in Yamunotri every day.
