Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has reached Sitapur after leaving from the Lucknow Airport after his ‘dharna’. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and a 5-member Congress delegation left for violence-hit Lakhimpur Kheri from Lucknow airport. The two will then together visit the victims’ families in the district. The Uttar Pradesh government earlier gave permission to Rahul, Priyanka and three other people to visit Lakhimpur Kheri after officials met chief minister Yogi Adityanath. All political parties, in a group of not more than five members, have been granted permission to visit Lakhimpur.

In Bahraich too the internet services were reportedly shut for a few hours this morning when the deceased farmer was being cremated. However, it was soon restored. The Uttar Pradesh government, meanwhile, has sent a detailed report on the violence to the Union home ministry. They said that details of cars running over, subsequent assault on BJP supporters, reasons for route diversion, details of FIRs will be shared with Centre.

Deputy CM was scheduled to visit Lakhimpur Kheri. The protesters went violent and pelted stones at BJP’s convey. One of the cars allegedly hit the protestors, after which the protestors not only burnt two vehicles but also ambushed the people and reportedly beat one driver to death. Disturbing visuals had emerged of the incident that led to several speculations.
