New Delhi, October 6: In order to seek new development in the state of Punjab, newly appointed Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi met Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday seeking intervention to seal the international borders to prevent illegal trafficking of drugs and weapons. Moreover, the Punjab CM also spoke to the Home Minister to repeal the three farm laws and also raised the issue of Lakhimpur Kheri violence that killed eight people.
This was Charanjit Singh Channi’s first official visit to Home Minister Amit Shah after becoming the Chief Minister of Punjab. Speaking about the meeting, Punjab CM stated that he is hoping for a positive outcome over the discussions. Expressing deep anguish over the tragic Lakhimpur Kheri incident, CM Channi said such barbaric acts would not be tolerated.
The Congress leader said he also requested Amit Shah for the early opening of the Kartarpur Corridor and he assured that the government would take a decision in this regard very soon. Earlier in Chandigarh, CM Channi, who along with some ministers and Congress legislators held a silent protest at the Gandhi Smarak Bhawan here, said the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri reminds him of the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh tragedy. Eight people died and several others were injured on Sunday in the bloodiest clash since the farmers' protest over the Centre's agri laws began last year.
